Frequently Asked Questions about MAP

What is MAP?
MAP stands for Motorist Assurance Program. MAP was formed by a group of automotive repair and service companies in order to improve the image and reputation of this industry in the eyes of the consumer.

The MAP program is a set of technical standards to guide technicians when distinguishing when a repair service is “REQUIRED” vs “SUGGESTED”.  It is a process to standardize the communication of repair services to consumers, using the terms “REQUIRED” or “SUGGESTED”.

What are the Uniform Inspection & Communication Standards?
These guidelines were developed by some of the best technical minds in the industry. They provide a road map for conducting an inspection of a customer's vehicle and then communicating with the customer to properly alert what repairs/ replacement on the vehicle are necessary or only suggested.

How does involvement with MAP help my business?
By following the MAP Standards, you’re showing your customers and potential customers that you believe in and follow high industry standards. It also indicates that you want to assure their satisfaction and that you will take care of their needs honestly and carefully.

How soon will I see results?
If you start the program tomorrow and do it as designed 100 per cent of the time, the results can be achieved tomorrow. According to survey, accredited shops have seen an increase in Transaction Values and in Customer Satisfaction.  If your customers are happy, they will likely return for service. The key point is to have a "champion" in the organization...if that person gets implementation up to 90pc plus in the first week, that champion will see results in the first week.

If I want to sign up my company, what do I have to do?
You can contact the MAP office at 800 808-2920 ext 264 and request an enrollment package or email a request to: info@mapcanada.org.

Simply complete the Facility Accreditation Application form and return it with payment. Once the application is processed and the facility has passed phone testing, the facility will receive a MAP Accreditation package which includes the MAP logo and other materials.  The decal can be displayed on a door, windows and in your showroom.

I am a small company. Is MAP for me?
MAP is composed of companies of all sizes. Although MAP was started by the major companies who had the resources to invest initially in this important program, it has quickly spread to companies of all sizes. The smallest member has one store and 4 bays! Remember, there are many more small companies than there are large companies in the automotive repair and service industry.

These are some of the most asked questions about MAP. Please feel free to contact MAP Canada (800) 808-2920,ext 264. We are interested in discussing MAP with you in as much detail as you desire.
